Wildfires Impact Colorado Springs on March 13, 2025
On March 13, 2025, Colorado Springs faced significant wildfire activity, with two major incidents prompting evacuations and emergency responses.
Meridian Fire Near Colorado Springs Airport
The first fire, known as the Meridian Fire, ignited around 1 p.m. east of the Colorado Springs Airport. Within two and a half hours, it had rapidly expanded to 4,000 acres. Mandatory evacuations were ordered for areas bounded by Davis Road to the north, Enoch Road to the east, Franceville Coal Mine Road to the west, and the southern edge of Schriever Space Force Base to the south. One structure was reported destroyed, but no injuries occurred. By 6 p.m., the fire was approximately 30% contained, and evacuation orders were partially lifted, transitioning to voluntary evacuations for most areas except along Blaney Road, Hammer Ranch Road, and Franceville Coal Mine Road south of Highway 94.
Fire Near Garden of the Gods
Approximately two hours after the Meridian Fire began, another fire near Garden of the Gods quickly grew to 20 acres. Thanks to the efforts of about 40 firefighters, the blaze was contained before reaching nearby homes, though flames approached the fences of three residences. Garden of the Gods park itself remained unaffected, but the Palmer Mesa Trail was closed at Sinton Trail due to the fire's proximity.
